Reto Leibundgut

3.11.-7.12.2002

Reto Leibundgut is a wizard at recycling old materials. The visitors are confronted with highly aesthetic works that, at a second glance, turn out to be made out of waste material lovingly and carefully worked into pieces of art. He not only leads us up the garden path, but the perfection of his minutely prepared works that at the same time attract and repel by their rough-and-readyness also evoke a feeling of unease. His works that manifest themselves as needlework, inlays and oriental carpets cut into pieces and reassembled according to a new pattern, combine low materials with petty-bourgeois and old-fashioned tastes.
