Xerxes Ach, Pascal Danz, Radenko Milak, Arno Nollen, Laurent Schmid, Erich Weiss: ‹EN-LIGHTED›
21.11.-21.12.2013
Light is one of the fundamental topics in art. Light waves make it possible to optically perceive art; from this point of view, every kind of visual art involves light. For the group exhibition „EN-LIGHTED“ we brought together six examples of positions, which deal with „light“ in a particular way. It is not about presenting classic „light art“, meaning light installations, but about special moments in painting and photography.Xerxes Ach for example sees painting as a material combination of paint or colors side by side, together and on top of each other. As a result of their interaction, they cause visual experiences, which seem to release more than what can be perceived materially. Pascal Danz is a master of putting non-issues in the center of attention – or of fading out the alleged main themes. „Being dazzled“ and „fading out“ are the main composition features of his work. Radenko Milak’s works live of the contrast of light and darkness – historical snapshots in new compositions. Arno Nollen is one of the last, great photographic observers. Whilst others are satisfied with “looking”, he wants to actually “see”, “identify”. Laurent Schmid breaks open systems of truth by a drastic transfer of virtuality – the on the face of it communicated clarity crumbles in the swirl of constructed strategies and methods. By immersing into the crowd and trying to become part of it, Erich Weiss captures anomalies and quaint discoveries with a miniature camera.
